That was Masafina in early June 2026. Four months later, daily search impressions were roughly seven times higher, one informational page had opened a whole query cluster from nothing, and niche UK product searches were climbing. This post covers that work, the Search Console numbers, and the lessons other UK food and D2C brands can take from it.
For the results overview, see our live Masafina case study. That page covers the wider engagement. This article is the food brand SEO story: what we did, and what Search Console shows.
Where Masafina started
Masafina sells heritage Mexican tortillas, tomatillos, beans and related ingredients in the UK. The website was already live when BlackFire came on. We added the search foundations and an ongoing content programme.
Title and meta description fields had been empty on every page, so search engines were showing little more than the brand name. We wrote keyword-led titles and meta descriptions for 18 pages: Home, What We Do, The Tortilleria, Our Impact, Story Behind, Products, Useful Words, Blog, Contact Us and six product pages.
We verified the Google Search Console domain property for masafina.com through DNS and submitted the WordPress sitemap. That is when Google started collecting Performance data. The first day with impressions in the export is 12 June 2026.
We finished the blog section, with a layout built for ongoing publishing, and seeded two early posts.
None of that is glamorous. It is the start most small food brands skip: get measured, give every page a proper title and description, submit a sitemap, then publish on a schedule.
What we actually did next
The retainer included two SEO blog posts a month, on top of two earlier seed posts. Topics stayed close to the brand: nixtamalization, the milpa, Mexican restaurants in London, salsa, regional salsas and heirloom corn.
The standout went live on 20 July 2026: Nixtamalization: The Ancient Process Behind Better Tortillas. It is a long informational guide, not a product pitch. That choice matters for the numbers below.

What the Search Console numbers show
All figures below come from Google Search Console exports for sc-domain:masafina.com, Search type Web, downloaded on 8 October 2026. Ranges end on 6 October 2026 to allow for reporting lag.
Daily visibility rose about sevenfold
Per-day figures matter more than raw period totals here. From 12 June to 6 July 2026 (25 days with data) Masafina averaged about 92 impressions per day. From 7 July to 6 October 2026 (92 days) that rose to about 653 impressions per day. That is roughly a sevenfold lift in daily impressions.
Month by month the climb is clear:
| Month | Impressions | Clicks per day |
|---|---|---|
| July 2026 | 8,582 | 14.13 |
| August 2026 | 19,296 | 15.68 |
| September 2026 | 27,355 | 19.27 |
September's clicks per day were about 36% higher than July's. September was the strongest full month, with 578 clicks.
One informational page opened a whole cluster
The nixtamalization page went from no Search Console data to 39,073 impressions and 159 clicks in the 7 July to 6 October 2026 window, at an average position of about 7.6. In that window it accounted for about 65% of all site impressions.
The query "nixtamalization" alone had 14,478 impressions at position about 8.6. Across 153 queries containing "nixtamal" (including the misspelling "nixtamil"), Search Console shows 21,790 impressions and 56 clicks in the current period, against none before. That is what a well-researched informational post can do for a specialist food brand: open a topic Google already has demand for, even when many of those impressions sit outside the UK purchase funnel.
Niche UK product searches climbed
Product pages matter when people search with buying intent. The query "tomatillos uk" moved from average position 13.59 to 5.25. Impressions rose from 49 to 1,594 and clicks from 1 to 11, comparing 12 June to 6 July with 7 July to 6 October 2026. "tomatillo uk" moved from position 18 to about 6.0. The tomatillos product page improved from 11.52 to 7.32, with clicks rising from 12 to 78 over the same comparison.
For a UK food brand selling ingredients that are not on every supermarket shelf, those UK-availability queries are worth winning.
Google indexed almost twice as many pages
On 9 July 2026, Search Console Indexing showed 13 indexed pages. By 3 October 2026 that was 24. A submitted sitemap plus steady publishing is the boring explanation, and it is usually the right one.
Lessons other UK food and D2C brands can copy
1. Empty meta titles are more common than you think
If every page title collapses to the brand name, you are leaving ranking and click signals on the table. Fix titles and meta descriptions before you buy tools or brief a 20-post calendar.
2. One strong informational post can open a whole query cluster
Masafina did not need fifty thin posts about "best tortillas". One deep page on nixtamalization created tens of thousands of impressions across related queries. Pick the process, ingredient or tradition your buyers already search for, and write it properly. Clear specialist pages still feed classic results and newer AI search surfaces.
3. Product pages should target real UK-availability searches
"tomatillos uk" and "fresh tomatillos uk" are not glamorous keywords. They are how a buyer with intent finds a specialist supplier. Match product copy and titles to those phrases without stuffing.
4. Indexing grows when you submit a sitemap and keep publishing
Indexed pages nearly doubled from mid-July to early October. Submit the sitemap in Search Console, fix noindex mistakes, and publish on a cadence Google can discover. Our SEO service is built around that rhythm, not one-off audits that gather dust.
FAQ
Food brand SEO is the work of helping a food or drink business appear in Google for the searches that lead to discovery, trust and sales. For UK brands that usually means fixing on-page titles and descriptions, setting up Search Console, targeting UK-availability product queries, and publishing specialist content that matches how people actually search for ingredients and methods.
On Masafina, Search Console only began collecting data on 12 to 13 June 2026. By September, monthly impressions had reached 27,355 and clicks per day were about 36% above July. Informational wins can appear within weeks of publishing. Steady product and brand gains usually need a few months of consistent work.
Both, for different jobs. Product pages win UK buying queries such as "tomatillos uk". Blog posts win educational clusters such as nixtamalization. Fix product and key landing page titles first, then add informational content on a schedule you can keep (for Masafina, two posts a month).
